Written out of Request: Good and Bad Music

Good and bad music; we all have different opinons on what is bad-ass, and what is lame - ass. Some people think Greenday, Blink 182, and Slipknot are bad-ass. Some people think Miley Cyrus, Josh Golden, and The Jonas Brothers are good music.

Those people suck, and deserve to get their ears ripped off, seeing as how they're not putting them to good use.

What is really upsetting, is that there is hardly any good music anymore. At least, good music that you don't have to hunt for in the bowls of the internet. Most of the music that is "popular" today is watered down, meaningless, repetitive, generic, CRAP that is lacking in any orignality. Bands that used to, you know, actually write about things have condensed their formerly six or seven minute songs, with insane guitar and sweet vocals, to a watered down two and a half to three minute song, with plenty of catchiness, but lacking in riffs. Half of the shit sounds the same too. I can't even tell the difference between Panic! At the Disco and Fall Out Boy anymore, they're just two bands with middle aged men in girl pants. Nothing special, seeing as how even the cameltoe is now generic.

Now, bands like Tool and Coheed and Cambria have meaning. Granted, Coheed and Cambria's music chronicaliszes a story, but thats not the point. It does have a meaning, the story they're telling has a meaning. Tool's music is out there, in some way, and has meaning. They make you think, the goal is for you to take away a meaning from their music. They put passion into their work. Dave Matthews Band is another good example, the song "#41" is deep, and puts things into perspective; and is one of the few love songs I actually like, because its not about a girl's "candy eyes" and "shakin' ass".

Of course, Owl City. The song Fireflies has taken off, yes, it has meaning. No, its not a good song. To me. Its irritating, annoying, and just all out shitty. Which does not explain in the least why I like it. I have no explanation. I find it horrendous, I want to burn it. It is the absolute BANE of my existance, but everyday, its warbling out of my speakers. Which is the disease of the mainstream music, catchiness; this one just happened to infect me at the right moment.

Damn you coorperate suits, and fuck you, teenagers for feeding this Disney/catchiness/watered-down music.
